Ingredients

  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1.5 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 0.5 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup water

Directions

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, combine the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, honey, and molasses. Stir well to dissolve the sugar and combine the liquids.

Step 2

Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally.

Step 3

Add the Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, ground mustard, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and salt to the saucepan. Mix thoroughly to distribute the spices evenly.

Step 4

Gradually stir in the water to adjust the sauce's consistency to your preference. Use more or less water depending on how thick you want your BBQ sauce to be.

Step 5

Lower the heat to low and allow the sauce to simmer for 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking or burning.

Step 6

Taste the sauce and adjust the sweetness, heat, or salt levels as desired by adding more honey, cayenne, or salt.

Step 7

Remove the saucepan from heat and let the sauce cool for 5-10 minutes. It will thicken slightly as it cools.

Step 8

Transfer the BBQ sauce into a glass jar or airtight container and refrigerate. Use within 2 weeks for best flavor.
