In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
Warm the milk slightly (ensure it is lukewarm, not hot) and add it to the dry ingredients.
Add the melted butter and egg to the bowl, and mix until a sticky dough forms.
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
