Ingredients

  • 4 pieces salmon fillets
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 stalks green onions
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Directions

Step 1

Pat the salmon fillets dry with a paper towel and season them lightly with salt and pepper.

Step 2

Mince the garlic and grate the ginger. Set aside.

Step 3

In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, minced garlic, and grated ginger to make the sweet-and-sour sauce.

Step 4

In another small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water until smooth. Set aside.

Step 5

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place the salmon fillets in the skillet, skin-side down if applicable. Cook for 4-5 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 4-5 minutes until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. Remove salmon from the skillet and set aside.

Step 6

Pour the sweet-and-sour sauce into the same skillet and bring it to a simmer over medium heat.

Step 7

Once the sauce is bubbling, stir in the cornstarch mixture. Continue cooking for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.

Step 8

Return the salmon fillets to the skillet, spooning the thickened sauce over them to coat evenly. Cook for 2 more minutes to heat through.

Step 9

Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Step 10

Serve the sweet-and-sour salmon warm with steamed rice or a side of your choice.
