Ingredients

  • 4 slices Ham steaks
  • 8 slices Canned pineapple slices (in juice)
  • 3 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Rice vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 4 tablespoons Ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Water
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable oil (optional, for searing)
  • 2 stalks Green onions (chopped, for garnish)
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and ketchup to create the sweet and sour sauce.

Step 2

In a separate bowl, combine the cornstarch and water, stirring until smooth. Set aside.

Step 3

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. If desired, lightly coat the skillet with vegetable oil.

Step 4

Add the ham steaks to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until they are lightly browned and heated through. Remove the ham steaks from the skillet and set aside.

Step 5

In the same skillet, add the pineapple slices and cook for 1-2 minutes per side until they are slightly caramelized. Remove and set aside.

Step 6

Pour the sweet and sour sauce mixture into the skillet and bring it to a gentle simmer over medium heat.

Step 7

Stir in the cornstarch slurry (cornstarch and water mixture) and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.

Step 8

Return the ham steaks and pineapple slices to the skillet, spooning the sauce over them. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

Step 9

Transfer the ham steaks and pineapple to a serving platter. Drizzle any remaining sauce from the skillet over the top.

Step 10

Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds, if desired. Serve warm.
