Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg Potatoes
  • 200 g All-purpose flour
  • 1 large Eggs
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 150 g Bacon
  • 1 medium Yellow onion
  • 0.25 tsp Ground allspice
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 0 Lingonberry jam (optional, for serving)

Directions

Step 1

Peel and boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain and let them cool slightly.

Step 2

Mash the potatoes until smooth, then let them cool completely to room temperature.

Step 3

Meanwhile, prepare the filling by finely chopping the bacon and the yellow onion.

Step 4

Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the bacon and onion, and cook until the bacon is crispy and the onion is soft, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the ground allspice and black pepper. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool.

Step 5

Once the mashed potatoes are completely cool, add the flour, egg, and salt to the potatoes. Mix until a soft dough forms.

Step 6

Divide the dough into 12 equal portions. Flatten each portion into a disk, place a spoonful of the bacon-onion filling in the center, and carefully fold the dough around the filling to seal it, rolling it gently into a ball.

Step 7

Bring a large pot of salted water to a gentle boil. Carefully drop the dumplings into the water, a few at a time, being careful not to overcrowd the pot.

Step 8

Cook the dumplings for about 5-7 minutes, or until they float to the surface. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the water and set aside on a plate.

Step 9

Serve the Swedish Dumplings warm, optionally garnished with lingonberry jam on the side for a touch of sweetness.
