Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup Brown sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons Instant yeast
  • 2 teaspoons Ground cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup Powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Heavy cream
  • 0.25 teaspoon Optional ground cardamom (for glaze)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, yeast, ground cardamom, and salt.

Step 2

In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter over medium heat until the butter melts and the mixture is warm but not too hot (around 110°F).

Step 3

Crack the eggs into a separate bowl and lightly whisk them. Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the milk mixture and stir to combine.

Step 4

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a sticky dough forms. If the dough is too sticky to handle, add a tablespoon of flour at a time until manageable.

Step 5

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.

Step 6

Grease a large bowl with a little butter or oil. Place the dough in the bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 7

Preheat your oven to 350°F and lightly grease a Bundt pan or round springform pan.

Step 8

Punch down the dough and shape it into a ring or bundt shape, depending on your pan type. Transfer the dough to the prepared pan.

Step 9

Cover the dough once more and let it rise for another 30 minutes.

Step 10

Bake the cake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Step 11

Remove the cake and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 12

While the cake cools, make the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, heavy cream, and optional ground cardamom for extra flavor.

Step 13

Drizzle the glaze over the cooled coffee cake and let it set before slicing. Serve and enjoy!
