Ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 8 cups water
  • 1 unit lemon, sliced
  • 2 units bay leaves
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 teaspoons hot sauce (optional)
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Fill a large pot with 8 cups of water and bring it to a boil. Add the lemon slices, bay leaves, kosher salt, and black peppercorns to the water.

Step 2

Reduce the heat to a simmer and add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the pot. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the shrimp are pink and opaque.

Step 3

Using a slotted spoon, transfer the cooked shrimp to an ice bath to stop the cooking process. Once cooled, drain and pat the shrimp dry with paper towels.

Step 4

To make the cocktail sauce, whisk together the ketchup, prepared horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, fresh lemon juice, hot sauce (if using), and salt in a small bowl. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.

Step 5

Arrange the shrimp on a platter with a bowl of the cocktail sauce in the center. Garnish with fresh parsley for a pop of color.

Step 6

Serve chilled and enjoy!
