Ingredients

  • 6 large Apples (firm, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 cups Fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 0.75 cups Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Nutmeg (optional)
  • 0.25 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 cups Old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 0.75 cups Brown sugar (packed)
  • 0.5 cups Butter (cold, cut into small cubes)
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cups Pecans or walnuts (chopped, optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.

Step 2

Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges. Place the apple slices and cranberries in the prepared baking dish.

Step 3

In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and flour. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the fruit in the baking dish.

Step 4

In a medium bowl, combine the rolled oats, brown sugar, all-purpose flour, and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the texture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 5

If using, stir in the chopped nuts. Evenly spread the oat mixture over the fruit in the baking dish, covering it completely.

Step 6

Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit filling is bubbly.

Step 7

Let the crisp cool for at least 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.
