Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground Italian sausage (mild or spicy)
  • 12 pieces slider buns
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese slices
  • 0.5 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons dijon mustard
  • 2 cups fresh arugula
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, season the ground Italian sausage with salt and black pepper, mixing it gently until combined. Divide the mixture into 12 equal portions and shape each into a small patty, slightly larger than the slider buns.

Step 2

Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium heat and add the vegetable oil. Once the oil is shimmering, cook the sausage patties in batches. Cook each patty for 3-4 minutes per side, or until fully cooked and browned on the outside.

Step 3

While the patties are cooking, prepare the slider buns by slicing them in half if not pre-sliced. Lightly toast the inside of each bun in a separate dry skillet or toaster, if desired.

Step 4

Cut each cheddar cheese slice in half so you have 12 half-slices. During the last minute of cooking the sausage patties, place a piece of cheddar cheese on top to melt slightly.

Step 5

In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise and dijon mustard together to create a flavorful spread.

Step 6

Assemble the sliders: Spread a thin layer of the mayonnaise-mustard mixture on the inside of each slider bun. Place an arugula leaf or two on the bottom half of each bun, followed by a sausage patty with melted cheese. Top with the other half of the bun.

Step 7

Serve the sausage sliders warm and enjoy!
