Ingredients

  • 1 lb extra lean ground beef
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1.5 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley (optional for garnish)
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper

Directions

Step 1

In a medium bowl, combine the ground beef, onion powder, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined and divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each into an oval patty about 1/2 inch thick.

Step 2

Heat the olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, until browned. Remove the patties and set aside on a plate.

Step 3

In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened and lightly browned.

Step 4

While the onions cook, whisk together the beef broth, cornstarch, and water in a small bowl until smooth. Pour the mixture into the skillet with the onions.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to medium and stir constantly to prevent lumps. Allow the sauce to thicken slightly, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 6

Return the patties to the skillet and spoon the gravy over the top. Cover and simmer for an additional 5 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through.

Step 7

Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired, and serve immediately. Pair with steamed vegetables or mashed cauliflower for a complete low-calorie meal.
