Ingredients

  • 1 cup Warm water
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (for brushing rolls)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine warm water, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy.

Step 2

In a small saucepan, heat the milk and unsalted butter over low heat until the butter is just melted. Remove from heat and let it cool to lukewarm temperature.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture, cooled milk mixture, salt, and 2 cups of flour. Stir well until smooth.

Step 4

Gradually add the remaining 2 cups of flour, 1/2 cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms. The dough should be slightly sticky but manageable.

Step 5

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook for about 5-6 minutes.

Step 6

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, turning once to coat. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 7

Punch down the risen dough and turn it out onto a clean surface. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.

Step 8

Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and arrange the dough balls evenly in the dish. Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes or until puffy.

Step 9

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.

Step 10

Remove the rolls from the oven and immediately brush the tops with the reserved melted butter for a glossy finish.

Step 11

Let the rolls cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature!
