Ingredients

  • 8 large Eggs
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 pound Ground sausage
  • 2 cups Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6 slices White or whole-grain bread
  • 3 stalks Green onions
  • 1 tablespoon Butter (for greasing)

Directions

Step 1

Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with the butter to prevent sticking.

Step 2

Brown the ground sausage in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it apart as it cooks, until fully cooked and no longer pink. Drain the fat and set aside.

Step 3

Cut the slices of bread into 1-inch cubes and layer them evenly in the bottom of the greased baking dish.

Step 4

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

Step 5

Sprinkle the cooked sausage evenly over the bread cubes in the baking dish. Follow with an even layer of shredded cheddar cheese.

Step 6

Pour the egg mixture evenly over the contents of the baking dish, making sure all the bread is soaked.

Step 7

Finely chop the green onions and sprinkle them over the top of the casserole as a garnish.

Step 8

Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil or plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight to allow the flavors to combine and the bread to absorb the liquid.

Step 9

The next morning, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes while the oven preheats.

Step 10

Bake the casserole, uncovered, in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the top is golden brown.

Step 11

Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving. Serve warm and enjoy!
