Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1.25 cups Warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 0.5 cup Sun-dried tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 0.25 cup Fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 0.25 cup Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy, indicating the yeast is activated.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients.

Step 3

Pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the well. Stir until the dough starts to come together.

Step 4

Add the chopped sun-dried tomatoes, basil, and Parmesan cheese (if using) to the dough. Mix thoroughly to evenly distribute the ingredients.

Step 5

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic. Add small amounts of flour as needed if the dough is too sticky.

Step 6

Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning the dough to coat it with oil. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Step 7

Punch down the dough to release air, then shape it into a loaf or desired shape. Place the dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet or into a greased loaf pan.

Step 8

Cover the dough loosely and let it rise again for 30 minutes while preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 9

Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Step 10

Allow the bread to cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
