Ingredients

  • 6 slices bacon
  • 1 large (diced) yellow onion
  • 3 minced garlic cloves
  • 2 15-ounce cans canned baked beans
  • 0.25 cups ketchup
  • 0.5 cups barbecue sauce
  • 0.25 cups dark brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon (or to taste) hot sauce
  • 1 4-ounce can (drained) canned green chiles
  • 2 fresh (deseeded and finely chopped) jalapeños
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet, drain on paper towels, and crumble. Reserve about 2 tablespoons of bacon grease in the skillet.

Step 3

Add the diced onion to the bacon grease and sauté until it becomes soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

Step 4

In a large mixing bowl, combine the baked beans, ketchup, barbecue sauce, dark brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, smoked paprika, chili powder, black pepper, green chiles, and chopped jalapeños. Mix thoroughly.

Step 5

Stir the cooked onions and garlic into the bean mixture.

Step 6

Pour the bean mixture into a large oven-safe casserole dish and spread it evenly. Sprinkle the crumbled bacon across the top.

Step 7

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.

Step 8

Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 30-45 minutes, or until the beans are thick and bubbling.

Step 9

Remove the beans from the oven and let them rest for 10 minutes before serving.
