Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoons ground nutmeg
  • 0.5 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 0.25 teaspoons ground cloves
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 3 eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for garnish, optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan and lightly dust it with flour, tapping out any excess.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, light brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and salt until well combined.

Step 3

In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and whole milk until smooth and uniform.

Step 4

Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients, stirring gently with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 5

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.

Step 6

Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Step 7

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 8

Once the cake is fully cooled, dust the top with powdered sugar for garnish, if desired. Slice and serve!
