Ingredients

  • 200 grams Sushi-grade raw salmon or tuna (optional: use cooked shrimp or tofu for alternatives)
  • 300 grams Cooked short-grain white or brown rice
  • 2 tablespoons Rice vinegar
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 5 sheets Nori (seaweed sheets)
  • 1 piece Cucumber, julienned
  • 1 piece Carrot, julienned
  • 1 whole Avocado, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce or tamari (optional, for dipping)
  • 1 teaspoon Wasabi (optional, for serving)
  • 30 grams Pickled ginger (optional, sugar-free)

Directions

Step 1

Cook the rice according to the package instructions. Once cooked, transfer the rice to a large bowl and allow it to cool slightly.

Step 2

Mix the rice vinegar and salt in a small bowl until the salt dissolves. Pour this mixture over the warm rice and gently fold to combine. Let the rice cool completely to room temperature.

Step 3

Prepare your fillings by slicing the cucumber, carrot, and avocado into thin strips. If using raw fish, slice it into thin pieces as well. Ensure all ingredients are ready to assemble.

Step 4

Cut each nori sheet in half horizontally. Keep the shiny side down and the rough side facing up.

Step 5

Lay a half-sheet of nori flat on your palm. Place a small handful (around 2 tbsp) of the seasoned rice on one end of the nori, gently spreading it but leaving space at the edges.

Step 6

Add a small portion of your desired fillings (fish, cucumber, carrot, avocado, etc.) diagonally across the rice.

Step 7

Carefully roll the nori into a cone shape, wrapping it tightly so the ingredients stay in place. Use a small grain of rice as glue to seal the edge of the nori.

Step 8

Repeat this process with the remaining ingredients to create more hand rolls.

Step 9

Serve immediately with optional soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side. Enjoy your sugar-free sushi hand rolls!
