Ingredients

  • 120 grams Rice flour
  • 20 grams Tapioca starch
  • 20 grams Cornstarch
  • 400 ml Water
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce (optional, for serving)
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil (optional, for serving)
  • 2 tablespoons Chopped green onions (optional, for garnish)
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the rice flour, tapioca starch, and cornstarch. Whisk to evenly distribute the dry ingredients.

Step 2

Gradually whisk in 400 ml of water until a smooth and thin batter is achieved. Ensure there are no lumps in the mixture.

Step 3

Stir in 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and 0.5 teaspoon of salt. Mix well and let the batter rest for 10 minutes.

Step 4

Prepare your steaming setup: Use a large pot with a lid and a steaming rack. Bring water in the pot to a boil over medium-high heat.

Step 5

Lightly grease a flat, heatproof tray or shallow plate that fits into your steamer. You can use a small amount of vegetable oil to prevent sticking.

Step 6

Pour a thin layer of the batter (about 1/3 cup) onto the greased tray, just enough to cover the surface evenly.

Step 7

Place the tray into the steamer and cover with the lid. Steam for 3 minutes, or until the rice roll turns translucent and sets.

Step 8

Carefully remove the tray from the steamer and allow it to cool slightly (about 30 seconds). Use a silicone spatula to gently lift and roll the rice sheet into a log shape. Transfer to a serving plate.

Step 9

Repeat the steaming process with the remaining batter, greasing the tray each time before pouring a new batch.

Step 10

Serve warm with soy sauce and sesame oil for dipping, and garnish with chopped green onions, if desired.
