Ingredients

  • 500 grams Beef sirloin or tenderloin
  • 60 ml Soy sauce
  • 15 ml Sesame oil
  • 4 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh ginger, minced
  • 3 Green onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Red chili flakes
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame seeds
  • 1 Asian pear, grated

Directions

Step 1

Thinly slice the beef sirloin or tenderloin across the grain into pieces about 1/8 inch thick. If possible, partially freeze the meat beforehand to make slicing easier.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, chopped green onions, black pepper, red chili flakes, sesame seeds, and the grated Asian pear. Mix well to form the marinade.

Step 3

Add the sliced beef to the marinade and ensure all the slices are evenly coated. For best results, cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, allowing the flavors to permeate the meat.

Step 4

Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. You can lightly grease the skillet with a bit more sesame oil if needed.

Step 5

Once the skillet is hot, add the marinated beef slices in a single layer. Cook until browned, approximately 2-3 minutes per side, depending on thickness.

Step 6

Transfer the cooked bulgogi to a serving dish. Garnish with additional sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired.

Step 7

Serve hot, as part of a Korean meal with side dishes like kimchi, or use as a filling for lettuce wraps.
