Ingredients

  • 6 medium Apples (any sweet variety, such as Gala or Fuji)
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice

Directions

Step 1

Peel, core, and chop the apples into small chunks.

Step 2

In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the apple pieces with water, ground cinnamon, and lemon juice.

Step 3

Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer.

Step 4

Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and cover the saucepan. Cook for 25 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples become very soft and break apart easily.

Step 5

Remove the saucepan from heat. If you prefer a chunky applesauce, mash the apples with a potato masher. For a smoother consistency, blend the mixture using an immersion blender or transfer it to a regular blender and puree until smooth.

Step 6

Taste and adjust the cinnamon according to your preference.

Step 7

Let the applesauce cool to room temperature. It can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week or frozen for longer storage.
