Ingredients

  • 250 grams Tapioca starch
  • 50 grams All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground white pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Celery leaves, finely chopped
  • 250 milliliters Water
  • 250 milliliters Vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, combine the tapioca starch, all-purpose flour, garlic powder, salt, ground white pepper, and chopped celery leaves. Mix together until evenly distributed.

Step 2

In a small saucepan, bring 250 milliliters of water to a boil.

Step 3

Gradually pour the boiling water into the dry ingredients while stirring continuously using a spatula or spoon. Mix until a dough forms. The dough should be soft and a bit sticky, but manageable with lightly oiled hands.

Step 4

Divide the dough into small equal portions about the size of a golf ball. Flatten each portion slightly with your palms to form a disc shape.

Step 5

Heat 250 milliliters of vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. To test if the oil is ready, drop a small piece of dough into the oil; it should sizzle and float to the surface.

Step 6

Carefully add the flattened dough discs into the hot oil, without overcrowding the pan. Fry in batches if necessary.

Step 7

Fry each side until they turn golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.

Step 8

Remove the cireng from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.

Step 9

Serve hot as a snack on its own or with your preferred dipping sauce.
