Ingredients

  • 14 oz Extra-firm tofu
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 3 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp Apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Liquid smoke
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 1 tsp Smoked paprika
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.25 tsp Cayenne pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

Drain the tofu and press it to remove excess moisture. To do this, wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.

Step 3

While the tofu is pressing, prepare the sugar-free BBQ sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together the tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, olive oil, liquid smoke, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Adjust seasoning according to taste.

Step 4

Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes or slices, depending on your preference.

Step 5

Place the tofu pieces into a large mixing bowl. Pour the prepared BBQ sauce over the tofu and gently toss until all the pieces are evenly coated.

Step 6

Arrange the coated tofu pieces in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 7

Bake the tofu in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, flipping the pieces halfway through the cooking time, until the tofu is golden and slightly crispy on the edges.

Step 8

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Step 9

Serve the sugar-free BBQ tofu warm, as a main dish or as a topping for salads, sandwiches, or bowls.
