Ingredients

  • 2 slices Rye bread
  • 4 oz Corned beef
  • 2 slices Swiss cheese
  • 0.333 cup Sauerkraut
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 2 tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Ketchup
  • 1 tsp Prepared horseradish
  • 1 tsp Sweet pickle relish
  • 0.5 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.25 tsp Freshly ground black pepper

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, prepare the Russian dressing by combining the mayonnaise, ketchup, horseradish, sweet pickle relish, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper. Mix until smooth and set aside.

Step 2

Spread 1 tablespoon of butter on one side of each slice of rye bread.

Step 3

Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, on a clean surface or cutting board. Spread a thin layer of the prepared Russian dressing on the unbuttered side.

Step 4

Layer 2 oz of corned beef on top of the dressing, followed by 1 slice of Swiss cheese and half of the sauerkraut. Repeat this layering (corned beef, Swiss cheese, and sauerkraut).

Step 5

Spread another thin layer of Russian dressing on the unbuttered side of the second slice of bread, then place it on top of the sandwich, buttered side facing out.

Step 6

Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, pressing gently with a spatula to ensure even grilling.

Step 7

Check that the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted before removing the sandwich from the skillet.

Step 8

Let the sandwich cool for 1 minute before slicing it in half. Serve immediately with extra Russian dressing on the side, if desired.
