Ingredients

  • 1 cake Angel food cake (store-bought or homemade)
  • 4 cups Fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 2 cups Heavy whipping cream
  • 3 tablespoons Powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1

Cut the angel food cake into 1-inch cubes and set aside.

Step 2

Place the sliced strawberries in a mixing bowl and sprinkle with granulated sugar. Stir gently to coat the berries evenly in sugar, then let them sit for 10-15 minutes to release their juices.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream with an electric mixer on medium-high speed until soft peaks form.

Step 4

Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract to the whipped cream, and continue beating until stiff peaks form. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 5

In a trifle dish or large serving bowl, layer the dessert starting with 1/3 of the angel food cake cubes on the bottom. Add a layer of strawberries (including some of the juice) and a layer of whipped cream.

Step 6

Repeat the layers two more times, ending with a final layer of whipped cream on top.

Step 7

Garnish the dessert with a few whole strawberries or additional sliced strawberries, if desired.

Step 8

Chill the dessert in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld together before serving.
