Ingredients

  • 250 grams all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoons salt
  • 60 grams unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 120 milliliters milk
  • 50 grams raisins or dried currants (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or butter (for greasing the pan)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, and salt. Mix well to distribute the dry ingredients evenly.

Step 2

Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using your fingertips or a pastry cutter, rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 3

If using, stir in the raisins or dried currants to distribute them evenly throughout the mixture.

Step 4

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the milk. Gently mix until the dough comes together, being careful not to overwork it.

Step 5

Lightly flour a clean surface and turn the dough out onto it. Pat the dough into a circle roughly 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick.

Step 6

Using a knife, divide the dough into 8 equal wedges, like cutting a pizza.

Step 7

Heat a non-stick skillet or a cast iron pan over low to medium heat. Lightly grease the pan with vegetable oil or butter to prevent sticking.

Step 8

Place the scones in the skillet, leaving some space between them to allow for slight spreading. Cover the skillet with a lid to trap the heat.

Step 9

Cook the scones for about 6-7 minutes on one side, or until golden brown. Flip them carefully and cook for another 6-7 minutes on the other side, until browned and cooked through.

Step 10

Remove the scones from the pan and let them cool slightly on a wire rack.

Step 11

Serve warm with butter, jam, or your favorite accompaniments. Enjoy!
