Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Beef or pork ribs
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 cup Chicken or beef broth
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 tablespoons Honey (optional, for extra sweetness)

Directions

Step 1

Pat the ribs dry with paper towels and remove the membrane on the underside of the ribs if it has not yet been removed.

Step 2

Rub the ribs on both sides with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and onion powder. Massage the seasoning into the meat for maximum flavor.

Step 3

Heat the olive oil in a large, deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, sear the ribs in batches, meaty side down, for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Remove the ribs and set aside.

Step 4

In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Step 5

Pour in the chicken or beef broth and stir to deglaze the pan, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.

Step 6

Return the seared ribs to the skillet, arranging them in a single layer, along with any juices that accumulated on the plate.

Step 7

Lower the heat to a gentle simmer, cover the skillet with a tight-fitting lid, and cook for 1.5 to 2 hours, turning the ribs occasionally. Check occasionally to make sure there’s enough liquid, adding a splash of broth or water if necessary.

Step 8

Once the ribs are tender and nearly falling off the bone, remove the lid and pour the BBQ sauce over them. Add honey if desired for additional sweetness.

Step 9

Turn up the heat to medium and cook uncovered, basting the ribs occasionally with the sauce for about 10-15 minutes, until the sauce thickens and coats the ribs beautifully.

Step 10

Serve hot with your favorite side dishes like coleslaw, mashed potatoes, or cornbread.
