Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dark soy sauce (optional, for color and depth)
  • 1.5 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger, minced or grated
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 1 cup Water or stock
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Rice vinegar
  • 0.25 teaspoon Optional red pepper flakes (for heat)

Directions

Step 1

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, dark soy sauce (if using), and brown sugar. Whisk together until the sugar is fully dissolved.

Step 2

Add the minced garlic, minced or grated ginger, sesame oil, and rice vinegar to the mixture. Stir to evenly distribute the ingredients.

Step 3

In a separate small bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in 2 tablespoons of water to form a slurry. This will help thicken the sauce during cooking.

Step 4

Gradually whisk the cornstarch slurry into the sauce mixture to ensure there are no lumps.

Step 5

Pour the 1 cup of water or stock into the sauce mixture and stir until everything is well combined.

Step 6

If you'd like a spicier sauce, stir in the optional red pepper flakes at this point.

Step 7

Heat the sauce in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until it begins to thicken and reaches your desired consistency (about 3–5 minutes). Remove from heat.

Step 8

Use immediately in your stir-fry or let the sauce cool completely before storing it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
