Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter or nonstick spray, and line the bottom with parchment paper for easy removal.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a separate medium bowl, mix the melted butter, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract until combined. Gradually add this wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
In a small bowl, combine the light brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped pecans to make the filling. Set aside.
Spread half of the cake batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle the cinnamon-pecan filling evenly over the top. Spread the remaining cake batter on top of the filling in an even layer.
To make the glaze, combine heavy cream, dark brown sugar, corn syrup, and softened butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the mixture is smooth and begins to bubble, about 3–4 minutes. Remove from heat.
Pour half of the caramel glaze over the top of the cake batter in the pan. Reserve the other half for finishing later.
Bake the cake in the preheated oven for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert it onto a plate or cake stand.
While the cake is still warm, pour the remaining caramel glaze over the top, letting it drip down the sides. Decorate with pecan halves.
Allow the glaze to set for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
