Ingredients

  • 16 ounces fresh spinach
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 small onion
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon nutmeg

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Wash the spinach thoroughly and pat it dry. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the spinach in batches until wilted, then remove it to a colander to drain and press out excess liquid.

Step 3

Finely dice the onion and mince the garlic cloves. In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for another 1 minute.

Step 4

Cut the cream cheese into cubes and add it to the skillet along with the heavy cream. Stir until the mixture is smooth and the cream cheese is fully melted.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to low. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, black pepper, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well until the sauce thickens slightly.

Step 6

Add the wilted spinach to the sauce and stir to combine thoroughly.

Step 7

Lightly grease a 9x9-inch baking dish. Pour the spinach mixture into the dish and spread it evenly.

Step 8

Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly across the top, followed by the breadcrumbs for a crunchy topping.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.

Step 10

Let the casserole cool for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
