Ingredients

  • 1 medium Swede
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Butter
  • 1 pinch Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Peel the swede using a vegetable peeler, trim off the ends, and cut it into 1-inch cubes for even steaming.

Step 2

Fill a large pot with about 2 inches of water and place a steamer basket over it. Make sure the water level is below the steamer basket.

Step 3

Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.

Step 4

Once boiling, place the swede cubes evenly in the steamer basket. Sprinkle with salt and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid.

Step 5

Steam the swede for about 20-25 minutes, or until the cubes are tender when pierced with a fork.

Step 6

While swede is steaming, chop the fresh parsley if you intend to use it as garnish.

Step 7

Once cooked, transfer the swede to a serving bowl.

Step 8

Add the butter to the swede while still hot, stirring gently until it's melted and evenly coats the pieces.

Step 9

Season with freshly ground black pepper to taste.

Step 10

Optional: garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Step 11

Serve the steamed swede hot as a nutritious side dish.
