Prep Time:10 mins

Total Time:30 mins
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 4 whole ripe pears
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 1 whole cinnamon stick
  • 1 inch piece, sliced fresh ginger
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons chopped nuts (optional)
  • 4 whole leaves mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Wash the pears thoroughly. Cut a small slice off the bottom of each pear to help them stand upright during cooking, if needed.

Step 2

Peel the pears carefully, leaving the stems intact for presentation. Optional: Core the pears from the bottom using a melon baller or small spoon.

Step 3

In a medium-sized saucepan with a lid, combine water, lemon juice, sliced ginger, and the cinnamon stick. Place the pears upright into the saucepan.

Step 4

Drizzle one tablespoon of honey over each pear. Cover with the lid.

Step 5

Bring the saucepan to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low and steam the pears for 15-20 minutes, occasionally spooning the liquid over the pears to baste them.

Step 6

The pears are done when they are tender and can be easily pierced with a knife without falling apart.

Step 7

Carefully transfer the pears onto serving plates. Remove the cinnamon stick and ginger slices from the cooking liquid.

Step 8

Let the liquid simmer for another 2-3 minutes until it reduces slightly into a light syrup. Drizzle the syrup over the pears.

Step 9

Optionally, sprinkle chopped nuts over the pears and garnish with fresh mint leaves. Serve warm or at room temperature.
