Ingredients

  • 4 pieces (6 oz each) Opah Moonfish fillet
  • 2 inches Fresh ginger, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves, thinly sliced
  • 3 stalks Scallions, chopped
  • 4 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons Rice wine (e.g., Shaoxing wine)
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 4 pieces Lime wedges
  • 4 cups Water (for steaming)

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the Opah Moonfish fillets under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.

Step 2

Prepare the aromatics: thinly slice the ginger and garlic, and chop the scallions into 2-inch pieces. Set aside.

Step 3

In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, sesame oil, rice wine, and 1 tablespoon of cilantro to create the aromatic sauce.

Step 4

Place a steamer over a pot filled with 4 cups of water and bring the water to a boil.

Step 5

Lay each fish fillet on a heatproof plate or tray that fits inside the steamer. Top the fish with the sliced ginger, garlic, and scallions.

Step 6

Drizzle the prepared aromatic sauce evenly over the fish fillets.

Step 7

Carefully place the plate or tray inside the steamer. Cover with the lid and steam over medium heat for 15-20 minutes, or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.

Step 8

Once cooked, carefully remove the plate from the steamer. Sprinkle the remaining cilantro over the fish.

Step 9

Serve the steamed Opah Moonfish immediately with lime wedges on the side for an extra burst of freshness. Pair with steamed rice or lightly sautéed greens for a complete meal.
