Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cups water
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 250 grams ground chicken or pork
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 cup cabbage, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons coriander leaves, chopped
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Gradually add about 3/4 cup of water, kneading until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.

Step 2

In a frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat, add the onions and sauté until translucent. Add the garlic and ginger, cooking for another minute until fragrant. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Step 3

In another bowl, mix the ground chicken or pork with the cooked onion mixture, soy sauce, cabbage, coriander, remaining salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine all ingredients.

Step 4

After the dough has rested, knead it for another minute and divide it into small, equal-sized pieces (about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter).

Step 5

Roll each piece of dough into a thin circle about 3 inches in diameter. Place a tablespoon of the meat filling in the center of each circle.

Step 6

Carefully fold the dough over the filling into your preferred shape, ensuring a tight seal around the filling to prevent it from bursting during cooking.

Step 7

Prepare a steamer by bringing water to a boil. Lightly oil the steamer basket to prevent the momos from sticking.

Step 8

Place the momos in a single layer in the steamer basket, leaving enough space between each to prevent them from sticking together.

Step 9

Cover and steam the momos for about 15-20 minutes, until the dough is no longer sticky and the filling is cooked through.

Step 10

Serve hot with a side of spicy tomato chutney or soy sauce.
