Ingredients

  • 500 g Brussels sprouts
  • 60 g Unsalted butter
  • 1 whole Lemon, zest and juice
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the Brussels sprouts under cold water. Trim the stems and remove any yellow or damaged outer leaves. Cut larger sprouts in half lengthwise for even cooking.

Step 2

Bring a pot of water with a steamer basket to a boil. Add the Brussels sprouts to the steamer basket, cover, and steam for 8-10 minutes, or until they are fork-tender but not mushy.

Step 3

While the Brussels sprouts are steaming, prepare the brown butter. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Continue to cook, swirling the pan occasionally, until the butter turns golden brown and starts to smell nutty, about 4-5 minutes. Be careful not to burn it.

Step 4

Remove the saucepan from the heat and immediately stir in the juice of one lemon and the lemon zest. Season with salt and black pepper, stirring to incorporate.

Step 5

Once the Brussels sprouts are done steaming, transfer them to a serving bowl. Pour the lemony brown butter over the top and gently toss to coat evenly.

Step 6

Taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt or pepper if needed. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.

Step 7

Serve immediately as a side dish and enjoy!
