Ingredients

  • 1 large head (approximately 1 pound) Broccoli crowns
  • 1 cup Water
  • 0.25 teaspoons Salt (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil or melted butter (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Lemon juice (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the broccoli under cold running water to remove any dirt or impurities.

Step 2

Cut the broccoli into even-sized florets for consistent cooking. Trim the stem, and if desired, peel and slice the stem into coins to include in the steaming process.

Step 3

Pour 1 cup of water into a medium-sized pot. Place a steamer basket or steamer insert inside the pot, ensuring the water level is below the bottom of the steamer.

Step 4

Bring the water to a boil over high heat.

Step 5

Once boiling, place the broccoli florets (and stems, if applicable) into the steamer basket and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid.

Step 6

Steam the broccoli for 4-5 minutes, or until the florets are crisp-tender and bright green. Test for doneness by piercing a floret with a fork; it should be tender but still slightly firm.

Step 7

Carefully remove the pot from the heat and take out the steamer basket. Transfer the steamed broccoli to a serving dish.

Step 8
