Ingredients

  • 4 pieces Ribeye or sirloin steak
  • 3 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 4 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 400 grams Crushed tomatoes (canned)
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons Capers, rinsed
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 8 leaves Fresh basil leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 0.5 cup White wine
  • 0.5 cup Water or beef broth

Directions

Step 1

Season the steaks with salt and pepper on both sides. Set aside.

Step 2

Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, sear the steaks for about 2-3 minutes on each side until browned but not fully cooked through. Remove the steaks and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Sauté the minced garlic until fragrant, about 30 seconds to 1 minute, being careful not to burn it.

Step 4

Deglaze the pan by adding the white wine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Let it simmer for 2 minutes to reduce slightly.

Step 5

Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, capers, dried oregano, red pepper flakes (if using), and beef broth or water. Stir to combine and bring the sauce to a gentle simmer.

Step 6

Return the seared steaks to the skillet, nestling them into the sauce. Spoon some sauce over the steaks. Cover the skillet with a lid and let the steaks cook in the sauce for about 10-15 minutes, depending on your preferred doneness.

Step 7

Once the steaks are cooked to your liking, turn off the heat and stir in fresh basil leaves. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning with additional salt or pepper if needed.

Step 8

Serve the steaks hot with generous ladles of pizzaiola sauce. Pair with crusty bread, pasta, or a side of roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
