Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ribeye steak
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 1 medium Green bell pepper
  • 6 slices Provolone cheese
  • 4 pieces Hoagie rolls
  • 2 tbsp Butter

Directions

Step 1

Place the ribeye steak in the freezer for 15 minutes to firm it up for easier slicing.

Step 2

While the steak chills, peel the onion and slice it thinly. Core and de-seed the green bell pepper and slice it into thin strips.

Step 3

After 15 minutes, remove the steak from the freezer and slice it as thinly as possible against the grain using a sharp knife.

Step 4

In a small bowl, mix together the salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Season the sliced steak with this mixture.

Step 5

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers, and sauté for 5–7 minutes until softened and slightly caramelized. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Step 6

Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet. Increase the heat to high and add the sliced steak in a single layer. Cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and just cooked through.

Step 7

Reduce the heat to low and layer the provolone cheese slices over the cooked steak. Cover the skillet with a lid and let the cheese melt, about 1–2 minutes.

Step 8

Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise, leaving them attached on one side. Spread a thin layer of butter on the inside of each roll and toast on a griddle or in a skillet over medium heat until golden brown.

Step 9

To assemble, divide the steak and melted cheese mixture evenly among the toasted rolls. Top with the sautéed onions and bell peppers.

Step 10

Serve warm and enjoy your Steak and Cheese sandwiches!
