Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Beef stew meat
  • 4 medium Carrots
  • 4 medium Potatoes
  • 3 Celery stalks
  • 1 large Onion
  • 2 cans Tomato soup
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 275°F (135°C).

Step 2

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Step 3

Dust the beef stew meat with the flour, shaking off any excess. Sear the beef in the hot skillet until browned on all sides. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Step 4

Peel and chop the carrots and potatoes into bite-sized chunks. Slice the celery stalks and chop the onion into small pieces.

Step 5

In a large, oven-safe Dutch oven or casserole dish, layer the browned beef, carrots, potatoes, celery, and onion.

Step 6

In a bowl, mix the tomato soup, water, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Pour this mixture over the ingredients in the Dutch oven.

Step 7

Add the bay leaf on top, then cover the Dutch oven tightly with a lid or aluminum foil.

Step 8

Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 6 hours. Do not stir during this time.

Step 9

After 6 hours, remove the dish from the oven. Discard the bay leaf and give the stew a gentle stir to combine the flavors.

Step 10

Adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper, if needed, and serve hot with crusty bread or over rice.
