Ingredients

  • 4 pieces large apples (e.g., Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith)
  • 50 grams light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoons ground nutmeg
  • 60 grams chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 40 grams raisins or dried cranberries
  • 30 grams unsalted butter, melted
  • 0.5 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup (optional, for drizzling)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking dish with parchment paper.

Step 2

Wash and core the apples, making sure to remove all seeds but leaving the bottom intact. Slice each apple horizontally into 3-4 even rings, depending on the apple's size.

Step 3

In a medium bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, chopped pecans or walnuts, raisins or dried cranberries, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Step 4

Reassemble each apple by layering the slices back together, spreading a small amount of the filling mixture between each ring. Save some filling to pile extra on top of the stacked apples.

Step 5

Carefully place the reassembled, stuffed apples onto the prepared baking dish. If desired, drizzle a small amount of maple syrup over the tops for extra sweetness.

Step 6

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes to caramelize the tops.

Step 7

Remove the apples from the oven and let them cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. Serve warm on their own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
