Ingredients

  • 2 cups Dried figs
  • 1 cup Raisins
  • 1 cup Walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon Orange zest
  • 3 tablespoons Orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons Honey
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground nutmeg
  • 2.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cups Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Milk
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Milk (for icing)
  • 0.25 cups Sprinkles

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the fig filling: In a food processor, combine dried figs, raisins, and walnuts. Pulse until finely chopped.

Step 2

Add orange zest, orange juice, honey, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg to the fig mixture. Pulse until everything is combined into a sticky paste. Set aside.

Step 3

Make the cookie dough: In a medium bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt.

Step 4

In a separate large mixing bowl, beat softened butter until creamy. Add eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract, and mix well.

Step 5

Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.

Step 6

Divide the dough in half, wrap each half in plastic wrap, and chill for 30 minutes.

Step 7

Roll out the dough: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper. Roll out one portion of dough on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4-inch thick.

Step 8

Spread a thin layer of the fig filling along one edge of the dough. Roll the dough over the filling to create a log. Trim any excess dough, seal the edges, and place the log seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.

Step 9

Slice each log into 2-inch pieces and arrange them on the baking sheets about 1 inch apart.

Step 10

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until lightly golden. Let the cookies cool completely.

Step 11

Prepare the icing: In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Drizzle or spread the icing over the cooled cookies.

Step 12

Decorate with sprinkles while the icing is still wet. Allow the icing to set before serving or storing.

Step 13

Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
