Ingredients

  • 120 grams Powdered sugar (confectioners’ sugar)
  • 15 milliliters Milk (any type, or water for a dairy-free option)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0 Food coloring (various colors)
  • 1 pinch Salt

Directions

Step 1

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, sift the powdered sugar to remove any lumps.

Step 2

Add the milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt to the powdered sugar. Mix until a thick, smooth paste forms. The paste should be pipeable but not runny; adjust by adding a drop more milk if too thick, or a touch more powdered sugar if too thin.

Step 3

Divide the mixture into separate small bowls, depending on how many colors you want to use.

Step 4

Add a drop of food coloring to each bowl and mix thoroughly until the color is evenly distributed. Add more food coloring as needed to achieve your desired shade.

Step 5

Transfer each colored mixture into a piping bag fitted with a small round tip (alternatively, you can use a plastic zip-top bag with the tip of a corner snipped off).

Step 6

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Pipe long, thin lines of the mixture onto the parchment, leaving a bit of space between each line. Try to keep the lines as even and thin as possible.

Step 7

Let the piped lines dry at room temperature for 24 hours, or until completely dry and hard to the touch.

Step 8

Once the lines are dry, gently break them into small sprinkle-sized pieces using your hands or a knife.

Step 9

Store the homemade sprinkles in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
