Ingredients

  • 300 grams fresh spinach
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 cups water
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt

Directions

Step 1

Wash the spinach thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt or grit. Set aside to drain.

Step 2

Peel and finely mince the garlic clove.

Step 3

In a dry skillet or pan, toast the sesame seeds over medium heat for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden and fragrant. Stir frequently to avoid burning. Remove from the pan and set aside.

Step 4

In a medium pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil with 0.5 teaspoon of salt.

Step 5

Add the spinach to the boiling water and blanch for 30 seconds to 1 minute, just until it wilts. Drain immediately and rinse under cold running water to stop the cooking process.

Step 6

Squeeze the excess water out of the spinach gently using your hands. Chop the spinach into bite-sized pieces if desired.

Step 7

In a mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, sesame oil, and minced garlic.

Step 8

Add the chopped spinach to the bowl and toss gently to coat with the sauce.

Step 9

Transfer the spinach to a serving dish and sprinkle the toasted sesame seeds evenly over the top.

Step 10

Serve immediately as a side dish or refrigerate for up to 1 day and serve cold.
