Ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 12 ounces smoked sausage, sliced into rounds
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cajun seasoning
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 cup dry white wine (or beer)
  • 0.5 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, chopped
  • 1 for serving lemon wedges
  • 4 servings cooked white rice or crusty bread

Directions

Step 1

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Step 2

Add the sliced smoked sausage and cook until browned on both sides, about 4-5 minutes. Remove the sausage and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, melt the butter and add the minced garlic. Sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 4

Add the sliced bell pepper and onion to the skillet and cook for 5-6 minutes until softened.

Step 5

Sprinkle the paprika, cajun seasoning, salt, and black pepper over the vegetables. Stir to combine.

Step 6

Return the cooked sausage to the skillet and stir everything together.

Step 7

Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until they just turn pink.

Step 8

Pour in the white wine (or beer) and chicken broth, scraping the bottom of the skillet to deglaze and absorb all the flavors. Simmer for 3-4 minutes to reduce slightly.

Step 9

Sprinkle the chopped parsley over the dish and serve immediately.

Step 10

Serve over cooked white rice or alongside crusty bread to soak up the flavorful sauce, with lemon wedges on the side for a bright finishing touch.
