Ingredients

  • 3 cloves garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 14 ounces canned diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1 small jalapeño, finely diced (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil.

Step 2

Once the oil is hot, add the chopped onion and sauté for 3–4 minutes until soft and translucent.

Step 3

Add the minced garlic, red chili flakes, ground cumin, and smoked paprika. Sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 4

Stir in the canned diced tomatoes (with juice) and tomato paste. Mix well.

Add the sugar, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

If using, add the finely diced jalapeño for extra heat.

Reduce the heat to low and let the dip simmer for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
