Ingredients

  • 1 lb raw shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic cloves (minced)
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1 whole lemon (juiced)
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley (chopped, optional for garnish)
  • 8 pieces wooden or metal skewers

Directions

Step 1

If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes to prevent burning during cooking. Metal skewers may be used as an alternative.

Step 2

Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with a paper towel.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine olive oil, minced garlic, paprika, cayenne pepper, cumin, chili powder, salt, black pepper, and the juice of one lemon. Whisk together to create the marinade.

Step 4

Add the shrimp to the bowl and toss to coat them evenly with the marinade. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 15–20 minutes to let the flavors infuse.

Step 5

Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grates or pan to prevent sticking.

Step 6

Thread the marinated shrimp onto the skewers, making sure to leave a little space between each shrimp for even cooking.

Step 7

Place the skewers onto the hot grill and cook for 2–3 minutes on each side, or until the shrimp turn opaque and have a slight char. Do not overcook, as shrimp can become rubbery.

Step 8

Remove the skewers from the grill and let them rest for 1–2 minutes.

Step 9

Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired, and serve immediately with a wedge of lemon on the side.
