Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.333 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter (cold, diced)
  • 0.5 cup pumpkin puree
  • 0.25 cup heavy cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 0.125 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, cayenne pepper, and salt.

Step 3

Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree, heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract.

Step 5

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the pumpkin mixture. Stir until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 6

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Shape the dough into a circle about 1-inch thick.

Step 7

Using a sharp knife or bench scraper, cut the dough into 8 equal wedges. Place the wedges on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart.

Step 8

Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool on a wire rack.

Step 9

While the scones are cooling, make the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, and a pinch of cayenne pepper in a small bowl.

Step 10

When the scones have cooled slightly, drizzle the glaze over the top. Allow the glaze to set before serving. Enjoy!
