Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef flank steak
  • 0.25 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 0.5 cup fresh orange juice
  • 2 tsp orange zest
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1.5 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger
  • 0.5 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 2 sliced into 1-inch pieces green onions
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 cups cooked (for serving) white rice

Directions

Step 1

Slice the beef flank steak thinly against the grain into bite-sized strips.

Step 2

In a large bowl, toss the beef strips with cornstarch until evenly coated. Shake off any excess.

Step 3

In a small bowl, whisk together orange juice, orange zest, soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes to make the sauce. Set aside.

Step 4

Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add half the beef strips in a single layer and sear for 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove from the skillet and set aside. Repeat with the remaining beef and 1 tablespoon of oil.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to medium and pour the prepared orange sauce into the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens slightly.

Step 6

Return the cooked beef to the skillet and toss to coat evenly in the sauce. Add the green onions and stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes.

Step 7

Garnish with sesame seeds and serve immediately over steamed white rice.
