Ingredients

  • 500 g Ground beef
  • 250 g Ground pork
  • 100 g Breadcrumbs
  • 1 large Egg
  • 3 large Garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tsp Red chili flakes
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 1 tsp Ground cumin
  • 1.5 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Pepper
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 medium Red onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp Balsamic vinegar
  • 3 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 120 ml Water
  • 2 tbsp Fresh parsley, chopped

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, red chili flakes, paprika, ground cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix well until fully combined.

Step 2

Using your hands, shape the mixture into small meatballs, roughly 2-3 cm in diameter, and set aside.

Step 3

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan, and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Remove the meatballs and set aside.

Step 4

In the same skillet, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped red onion and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.

Step 5

Stir in the balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, tomato paste, and water. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the mixture begins to thicken slightly.

Step 6

Return the meatballs to the skillet, ensuring they are coated with the savoury jam. Lower the heat to a simmer, cover the skillet, and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the meatballs are fully cooked and the sauce has thickened to a jam-like consistency.

Step 7

Garnish the meatballs with freshly chopped parsley and serve immediately. They pair beautifully with crusty bread, rice, or mashed potatoes.
