Ingredients

  • 500 g Ground beef (or chicken/pork)
  • 1 medium Red onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp Ginger, grated
  • 1 large Green chili, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp Fresh coriander, chopped
  • 1 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • 0.5 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 0.5 tsp Red chili powder
  • 100 g Breadcrumbs
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tbsp Lime juice
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 4 tbsp Vegetable oil (for frying)

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with chopped red onion, garlic, ginger, green chili, and fresh coriander.

Step 2

Add the cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, paprika, red chili powder, salt, and black pepper to the meat mixture.

Step 3

Mix in the breadcrumbs and crack the egg into the bowl. Add the lime juice for a touch of acidity.

Step 4

Use clean hands to combine the ingredients thoroughly until the mixture is evenly seasoned.

Step 5

Shape the mixture into small, even-sized balls, about the size of a walnut. You should have approximately 16-18 meatballs.

Step 6

Heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium heat.

Step 7

Fry the meatballs in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook each batch for about 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure they are browned on all sides and cooked through.

Step 8

Remove the meatballs and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

Step 9

Serve the Spicy Sri Lankan Meatballs hot with steamed rice, naan, or a tangy dipping sauce.
