Ingredients

  • 4 links Spicy Italian sausages
  • 300 grams Penne pasta
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 0.5 teaspoons Crushed red chili flakes
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 0.5 cups Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 0.5 cups Fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook until al dente according to package instructions. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water, then drain and set the pasta aside.

Step 2

While the pasta cooks, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the spicy Italian sausages and cook them for 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned and fully cooked through. Remove them from the skillet and set aside to rest.

Step 3

In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Sauté the chopped onion for 2-3 minutes until softened, then add the minced garlic and red chili flakes. Cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to low and stir in the heavy cream, Dijon mustard, and grated Parmesan cheese. Whisk the mixture until smooth and creamy. If the sauce seems too thick, add a bit of the reserved pasta water to reach your desired consistency.

Step 5

Slice the cooked sausages into bite-sized pieces and return them to the skillet. Stir to coat them in the sauce.

Step 6

Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss everything together until evenly combined. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the chopped fresh basil.
