Ingredients

  • 450 grams fresh green beans
  • 4 units garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons water

Directions

Step 1

Wash and trim the green beans by cutting off the stem ends. Pat them dry with a clean paper towel.

Step 2

Peel and finely mince the garlic cloves. Set aside.

Step 3

Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add the olive oil.

Step 4

Once the oil is hot, add the green beans to the pan. Toss the beans in the oil, then add the water. Cover the skillet with a lid and let the beans steam for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 5

Remove the lid from the skillet and increase the heat slightly. Let the green beans sauté uncovered for about 2 minutes, stirring frequently, until they develop a slight char.

Step 6

Add the minced garlic to the pan and toss with the green beans. Cook for 30-60 seconds, stirring constantly, to prevent the garlic from burning.

Step 7

Add the soy sauce, red chili flakes, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir well to coat the green beans evenly in the sauce. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently.

Step 8

Taste the green beans and adjust the seasoning with more salt or chili flakes if desired.

Step 9

Remove the skillet from the heat and transfer the Spicy Garlic Green Beans to a serving dish. Serve immediately as a side dish to complement rice, noodles, or your favorite protein.
